... because if you don't know how to please yourself, you're not going to be able to write entertaining fiction.
edit: this is actually quite a complex topic. it's not just that simple. There are writers out there who don't please themselves (at least not the way their writing pleases their intended readers). Then, there are writers who do please themselves extraordinarily well but write uninteresting fiction to the rest of the world because the way in which the writer pleases himself doesn't activate the same interest pathways in the intended readers.
- For instance, a writer occupies a book with constant topics concerning a problem that he's facing in his personal life. But this problem is not very relevant to the reader
- Another instance: a writer goes into constructicism a lot, which is where he occupies his mind with the sheer pleasure of constructing a novel, but when the readers read it, the story is actually boring because this "pleasure in constructing a novel" doesn't translate into reader interest.
updates:
I am still consolidating my writing ideas into one database. i have 2000 writing ideas. this will take more time. i am 1/2 to 3/4th the way through
after that, i will start consolidating all my writing knowledge by organizing them into a database
after that, i will write fiction theory
after that, i will start dictating novels
while i'm doing all this, i will be trading stocks during active market hours.
at some point in the far future, i will contact the professor at deepmind and show him my model of how the human brain works. ... after i study deep learning, because i really don't want to make a fool out of myself
